Welcome to McHenry School District 15! We are proud to serve approximately 4,100 students from Pre-K through 8th grade across five elementary schools and two middle schools. Our dedicated staff are committed to delivering an unrivaled education by providing innovative, supportive, and engaging experiences that empower all learners to achieve their ultimate success.
At District 15 we take great pride in the quality of education we provide and deeply value the strong partnerships we’ve built with staff, parents, and our broader community. As a student-centered organization, we implement best practices across all areas, prioritize innovation, ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff, and remain committed to responsible fiscal management.
There is much to celebrate in our district. In recent years, McHenry School District 15 and staff have received local, regional, state, and national recognition in curriculum development, innovation and technology, professional development, principal leadership, best practices in literacy, fiscal responsibility, and school board governance.In short, District 15 is a strong community made up of incredibly talented and caring teachers, staff, administrators, Board of Education members, supportive parents, and, most importantly, bright and curious students who inspire us each day.

About the Superintendent

Dr. Josh Reitz has proudly served as the Superintendent of McHenry School District 15 since 2021. Since joining the district in 2008, he has held several key roles, including Principal of McHenry Middle School, Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services, and Deputy Superintendent. His career in education began in 1998 as a teacher and coach at Johnsburg High School. He later served as Assistant Principal at Geneva Middle School (District 304) from 2004 to 2008.
Dr. Reitz holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Illinois University (1998), a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from National-Louis University (2002), and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership earned in 2012. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Concordia University Chicago and frequently presents at regional and national conferences on topics such as principal leadership, educational technology, and staff development.
Recognized for his commitment to communication and innovation, Dr. Reitz was named a Superintendent to Watch in 2022 by the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA). In 2021, he received NSPRA Illinois' Award of Excellence for outstanding communication leadership. Additionally, he and the District 15 Board of Education were honored with the Modern Governance 100 Award by Diligent for exemplary school governance and transparency.
Beyond his work in education, Dr. Reitz is deeply involved in the community. He has served in leadership roles on the Board of the Youth and Family Center of McHenry County (YFC), the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, the Eastern Illinois University Alumni Association, the McHenry County Curriculum Council, the McHenry Elementary Education Foundation, and the McHenry County Superintendent Organization.
Josh and his wife Kelly, a kindergarten teacher at Hilltop Elementary School, are proud parents of two children, Jack and Claire.
